How-To

Understand Your Role Mid-Game

Understand your role mid-game in The Prey: what the Hunter and Prey should focus on once the head start ends and the clock is running.

  1. When the game starts, your role screen appears: Prey or Hunter. Read it. It tells you what to do next.
  2. If you are Prey: the head start countdown is on screen. Move immediately, because the Hunter can already see you and is released the moment the head start ends.
  3. If you are Hunter: the head start countdown is on screen too. Use the time to study the playfield boundary and plan your approach.
  4. Open the map tab when the Active Hunt begins. Your position is the center marker. Prey pins appear at their last broadcast location.
  5. As Prey: the map shows the Hunter’s position so you know which direction to avoid. Keep moving. Pinned positions are not real-time, so assume the Hunter is closer than the map shows.
  6. As Hunter: cross-reference Prey pin positions with the terrain. Prey on the edge of the playfield have limited escape routes. Cut them off.
  7. Watch the timer in the top bar. In the final stretch, prey positions update more often, so cover gets harder to keep. Prey, stay hidden and wait it out. Hunter, close in fast.
  8. When the game ends, results are shown automatically. Both Prey and the Hunter see who survived.
